Originally a surf brand , Stüssy was founded in Laguna Beach, California in the 1980s by surfer Shawn Stüssy, who gradually moved from his iconic signature on surfboards with his own designs to selling his own T-shirts and other clothing out of the trunk of his car, initially just as a promo for his boards. Without any further advertising, his pieces were increasingly in demand and within a few years his clothing had achieved international recognition, even among collectors.
The Stüssy brand laid the foundation for streetwear clothing . For his collections without rules and a specific purpose, Stüssy drew inspiration not only from surfing, but also from punk and rock, later from hip-hop, fashion icons from around the world and, last but not least, from skateboarding. The now iconic Stüssy brand and its central motif of Shawn Stüssy's signature and mirrored initials continue to this day, even after 30 years of operation, in its successful campaign through the fashion industry.
